Includes Artisan’s forced Web site ad, the director’s audio commentary, composer Carter Burwell’s commentary in selected scenes, production notes, biographies, DVD-ROM extras, an eight-page booklet, and “The Secret Of Esrever” (yeah, it’s reverse, reversed) that gives us “shocking” examples of possible “messages” from the Blair Witch mysteriously embedded in the film. Actually, there’s a rather cool puzzle you can play as you watch the movie. Note that the reverse side of this DVD-9 disc is a compact disc offering the movie soundtrack. |

Story Synopsis:
Book Of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 finds tourists descending on Burkittsville, Maryland after the phenomenon of first movie. Four young fans decide to spend the night in the woods with devastating consequences. Note that the reverse side of this DVD-9 disc is a compact disc offering the movie soundtrack. It’s an interesting idea that might catch on. (Laurie Sevano)
DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 1.80:1 DVD, shot in various formats, exhibits generally good quality overall. Colors can be rich and bold, with nicely balanced fleshtones and deep, pure blacks. Images are generally sharp, but there is some smearing apparent. Contrast and shadow delineation are mediocre, considering the stylization. Pixelization is noticed, for a picture that is not very solid, and edge enhancement is also detected at times. Overall, the picture lacks crisp, clean imagery, but otherwise illustrates the vision of the filmmakers. Film grain is revealed at times, but does not distract.(Suzanne Hodges)
Soundtrack:
The soundtrack presentation in Dolby® Digital 5.1 is remarkable and should certainly deliver with a satisfying sense of spaciousness. The sound mix has been well-produced and the fidelity is exemplary. The tonality of the audio seems neutrally-balanced, thereby obviating the need for re-equalization. The rendering of a spacious, holosonic listening space is absolutely uncanny and is also downright engaging, with judicious and effective use of the split surrounds (with three surrounds via the SMART® Devices CS-3X., Jr. or equivalent providing for further enhancement with the perception of space). While the atmospheric effects are usually distributed throughout the listening space with subtlety, it is the novel, “mood setting” effects that sweep around and engulf you, particularly with the rather interesting, sometimes shocking transient POV sequences. The music, as well, is a remarkable recording and projects a wide, immersive imaging across the screen with engrossing, sometimes prominent envelopment from the surrounds. Voices are presented with impeccable clarity, very natural tonality and excellent spatial integration. The low-end is also a standout for this soundtrack, with substantial .1 LFE activity and a clean, deep, occasionally intense presence that extends to below 25Hz. (Perry Sun)
