Story Synopsis:
A distinctive weapon is the calling card of internationally known assassin Francisco Scaramanga (Lee), 007’s (Moore) nemesis in The Man With The Golden Gun, the ninth James Bond adventure. Bond is assigned to recover the Solex Agitator energy converter from Scaramanga before he destroys the world.
DVD Picture:
When compared to the previously released LaserDisc (not reviewed), the anamorphically enhanced 1.78:1 DVD exhibits a picture that is quite solid. Though dated, the picture is generally sharp. Colors are rich and nicely balanced, with deep, solid blacks. Clarity is improved over the LaserDisc, as colors are more well-defined. Minor film grain is noticed. Occasionally edges appear enhanced, but the DVD will surely please those who have seen the LaserDisc.
Soundtrack:
The Dolby® Digital 2.0 matrixed soundtrack incorporates stereophonic music into the original mono sound mix. The audio is dated in fidelity, distorted and can be bright at times if no re-equalization of the screen channels is engaged. Other than some steering to enhance dimension, this is an undistinguished monaural listening experience. Subtle background hiss can be noticed in quiet scenes, and because of the compromised fidelity, dialogue isn’t very natural sounding.
