Death lurks, and two teenage girls try to figure out where he's heading, in this sequel to the unexpected teen horror hit Final Destination . As Clear Rivers ( Ali Larter ), the only surviving passenger of the ill-fated Flight 180, waits in a mental institution, certain Death will claim her, Kim ( A.J. Cook ), who has begun to display precognitive powers, is driving along the highway when she sees a terrible accident in which several cars crash into a logging truck. Moments later, the horrible vision is gone, but Kim is certain she saw an accident that was supposed to happen but didn't...and now Death will track down the souls he meant to take that day who slipped through his fingers. A police officer, Thomas Burke ( Michael Landes ), believes there's a germ of truth in Kim's story, and teams her up with Clear in hopes that together they can help prevent Death from snuffing out any more of the people involves in the accident that wasn't. Tony Todd also returns from the first film as Mr. Bludworth. — Mark Deming

As with other DVDs in New Line’s infinifilm™ lineup, this DVD offers your typical pop-up trivia and access to featurettes and deleted scenes during the movie. Using the infinifilm features menu, you will find two sub-menus: Beyond The Movie and All Access Pass. Beyond The Movie includes the 14-minute Terror Gauge featurette in which we observe the brain waves of three test subjects as they watch Final Destination 2; an 18-minute Cheating Death: Beyond And Back featurette, which introduces us to people who have had Near Death Experiences; a humorous Choose Your Fate card game that, by luck of the draw, will tell you if you won the lottery or were decapitated at the dinner table by an ancient ceiling fan. You also have access to the fact track in this menu. The All Access Pass menu offers filmmaker commentary with director David Ellis, producer Craig Perry, and screenwriters Eric Bress and J. Macjye Gruber; a great 30-minute featurette on “splatter movies” called Bits And Pieces: Bringing Death To Life, which features lots of visual effects secrets like how they made that pileup scene seem so real; five deleted alternate scenes; two music videos (The Blank Theory’s “Middle Of Nowhere” and The Sounds’ “Seven Days A Week”); DVD-ROM content; and trailers.

Story Synopsis:
In "Final Destination 2," it is a year after the explosion of Flight 180. A detailed premonition had saved a group of passengers who got off the plane before the tragedy...but one-by-one, each of the passengers intended to be on that fateful flight met their final demise. This time, in the tradition of the previous story, young Kimberly Corman (Cook) has a terrible vision of a horrible traffic accident, which results in the bloody deaths of her friends and several other drivers on the road. But when she tries to save these people from the Grim Reaper’s sadistic highway homicide, they all learn that there is a death penalty for trying to cheat death. Her only hope for life lies with Clear Rivers (Larter), the only survivor of Flight 180, who is happily locked away from harm in an institution’s padded room. (Suzanne Hodges)

DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 1.85:1 DVD picture exhibits a sharp and nicely detailed picture, with superb contrast and shadow delineation. Colors are rich and well balanced with accurate fleshtones and deep solid blacks. Of course, this movie is “saturated“ with plenty of blood and reds are appropriately saturated throughout. Only the pickiest viewers may notice the minor edge enhancement or pixelization with this otherwise outstanding DVD. (Suzanne Hodges)

The disc also includes a modified 1.33:1 (4:3) full screen version (not reviewed).

Soundtrack:
The soundtracks (Dolby® Digital Surround EX™ and DTS-ES®) are the result a new remixing/remastering effort by MiCasa Multimedia. The audio quality is absolutely outstanding. To start off, the dialogue sounds smooth, remarkably natural, and very well-integrated with the visuals. Soundstaging ranges from gentle, very subtle indoor ambience, to all-out 6.1-channel soundfield engagement with wide dynamic range and a powerful deep bass presence. The music sounds terrific, and has a wholly enveloping, holosonic™ presence all around the listener. Conveyed within the music are atmospheric cues that serve to provide a visceral foundation. The full onslaught of effects results in energetic, aggressive dimensionality, fully engaging all of the main channels. Low frequencies can be downright powerful and intense for all channels. The back surround channel’s effectiveness seems primarily to be in expanding the holosonic palette around the listener. While both audio versions are excellent, the DTS-ES version is a little more refined in spatial resolution, and has a bit more prominence in the low-end. (Perry Sun)
