ALIVE With Thrills That Started A Million Years Ago!

On the ocean floor off a Caribbean Island, an American engineer building a new harbor sets off a blast that uncovers the frozen bodies of a Brontosaurus, a Tyrannosaurus Rex and a Neanderthal man. The dinosaurs are hauled ashore by the construction crew, who are unaware that the giants are actually alive, in a state of suspended animation. Struck by lightning during a fierce tropical storm, the monsters awaken and prowl the island jungles. Also restored to life is the cave man, an amiable brute who joins an island boy in a series of wacky misadventures.

A merry grab bag of sci-fi, action and comedy, Dinosaurus! features stop-motion dinosaur animation by the legendary Projects Unlimited effect team (The Time Machine, The Outer Limits). It is presented here in its original widescreen aspect ratio, in a sparkling new 16:9 transfer made from the original CinemaScope camera negative.

Story Synopsis:
No, Dinosaurus! is not an Ed Wood production...but it’s close! And that means great 1960s-era monster movie fun. During construction of a harbor off the coast of a Caribbean island, a dynamite blast uncovers the frozen (in the Caribbean!) bodies of a brontosaurus, a tyrannosaurus and a cave man. Well, the giant beasts are struck by lightning and COME BACK TO LIFE!!! Oh, the cave guy comes back to life, too, and has some fun adventures running around the jungles with an island boy. It’s just too much fun! So stir up some Tang, unwrap a couple of Twinkies, and have some Saturday afternoon fun.

DVD Picture:
According to the packaging, the anamorphically enhanced DVD was transferred from the original CinemaScope negative. The result is a picture that is quite clean for its age. Images are sharp and detailed, though background clarity is limited. Some source element artifacts and scratches are apparent. For its age, the picture looks quite good, though wanting in some dimension. The reel change cues are present.

Soundtrack:
The Dolby® Digital mono soundtrack is poor in fidelity with distortion prevalent throughout. There is also noticeable background noise. However, dialogue is presented at a fairly comfortable listening level.
