"Original! Inventive! A Delight To The Eye!" - Roger Ebert

Join the greatest band of all time for a mind-blowing voyage you won’t soon forget. Heralded as “a cartoon landmark” (San Francisco Examiner), this visually stunning odyssey turned animation upside-down with its irreverent style and innovative techniques.

Once upon a time…or maybe twice, the unearthly paradise of Pepperland was taken over by the evil Blue Meanies. All looked hopeless…until the Fab Four sailed in to save the day with humor, music and, of course, their yellow submarine.
Now restored with Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound and featuring classic Beatles tunes including the never-before-seen animated sequence “Hey Bulldog,” this visionary masterpiece is “a funny, fascinating, whiz-bang tour de force” (Los Angeles Times)!

Features
Picture yourself on a Yellow Submarine with tangerine trees and groovy far out stuff you don’t remember from your first trip. That’s what you’ll get with the newly remastered version of this animation classic. Line producer John Coates and head designer Heinz Edelmann will give you the inside story on their full-length audio track or you can choose to listen to the isolated music score for a full Beatles experience. “Mod Odyssey” is a terrific featurette chronicling the wild time that surrounded the making of the film that eerily whisks you back to the 60s. There is the original theatrical trailer, storyboard sequences with hundreds of drawings—including two not used in the final film and one split-screened with the actual footage, interviews with the crew and vocal talents (no, it’s not the Beatles voicing their roles) that provide some interesting and at times hilarious insight, a small booklet filled with production notes and trivia plus trippy behind-the-scenes photos and original pencil drawings “All Together Now” for the first time! We hope you will enjoy the show!

Story Synopsis:
Based on the song by Lennon and McCartney, Yellow Submarine is a magical mystery tour through Pepperland, a psychedelic undersea city filled with op art trees and marmalade skies. That is until the Blue Meanies-those evil little blobs of mischief-take over the surreal landscape with snapping turks and a flying glove. But look out! Here comes the Fab Four as their alter-egos, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Band in their Yellow Sub to make Pepperland a far-out trip once again. Includes the never-before-seen animated sequence “Hey Bulldog.”

DVD Picture:
The restored picture on the non-anamoprhic DVD exhibits vibrant, eye-popping colors and deep blacks. The intriguing animation is sharp, though primitive when compared to today's animated films. The picture is quite solid, though not free from compression pixelization. Video artifacts are occasional. Still, the picture will surely please, especially considering the extensive restoration needed to bring the picture closer to today's standards.

Soundtrack:
The original theatrical soundtrack has been remastered and encoded in discrete 5.1 Dolby Digital. The discrete has been noise-reduced with improved dynamics, especially deep, powerful bass below 25Hz enhanced with aggressive .1 LFE. Of course, this is a Beatles musical, and the music is quite sweet, and though the fidelity is dated the sound is always satisfying. The music wraps deep into the surrounds for an enveloping soundfield experience. Plus there are effective moments of split surround effects that fully complement the holosonic experience. Dialogue is, of course, ADR-processed and generally unnatural sounding. Often there is off screen dialogue that is far too forward sounding compared to center.
