Arrested for the murder of Rachel Caldwell, Johnny seeks the assistance of her sister, a reluctant Rebecca who believes that he is guilty and his friends to prove his innocence and figure out what really happened to her.

NOTE: Although Frank Whaley's name is listed in the credits, he does not appear in this episode (he was only in Part 1).
The episode wrap-up at the USA Network web site lists an extra scene at the end, where Johnny "meets" with Whaley again in the future but Whaley is attacked by future-survivors before he can answer.
The full script for this episode on the official site expands on the extra scene mentioned above, which was omitted from the aired episode. In the scene, Wey shows Johnny the reason that he is being pursued by the survivors before he is attacked. This reason is later revealed and used in the season finale.

While following a missing person's case of an eleven year old named Katie Mercer, Johnny's visions of the girl intercede with visions of the night of his crash 9 years ago. He struggles with the help of Rebecca to relive and endure the night of his accident so that he could figure out where Katie is located as the intensity of the physical and emotional pain of his visions start to wear him down. As Johnny sorts out this strange intertwining of the past and present, he is led to the mysterious person that saved his life.

This is the third time in the series where two people with active dead zones have shared a vision in the past and future: Johnny and the Indian shaman in S1's "Shaman", Johnny and Christopher Wey in S2's "Visions", and this episode, where Johnny shares a vision with himself in the past.

36. Cold Hard Truth

When shock jock Jack Jericho who spews venomous attacks on the airwaves gets a concussion from being beaten by a group of bikers he offended, the most unlikely person comes to his aid. Johnny who is the target of Jack's many radio bashings becomes concerned that the radio host's self-destructive behavior is leading him down a path that would end in his death. In the midst of all this, Johnny attempts to help Walt and Sarah with J.J. who is having problems at school and at home.

NOTE: The USANetwork site lists Robert Iler's character as "Derek Rankin," even though their episode wrap-up and the fake news article correctly refer to him as "Derek Fitz."
The wrap-up at the USANetwork site refers to a parent-teacher meeting that occurs after the bomb is discovered, that we don't see on-screen.
There were two alternate endings for this episode: 1) Derek holds his empty hands up as Johnny checks his pockets and shows the guards the cell phone. The guards and the principle look ashamed; 2) Derek freezes after Johnny yells at the guards to stop. He slowly pulls out a cell phone and says he just wanted to call the principle. The principle is shocked and ashamed.
In the story's wrap up on the USA Network site, there is a short account of the aftermath of the shooting. The account states that Fitz lived at the end of the shooting, but the USA synopsis says he died. On screen it is left vague.

This episode bears some resemblance plotwise to the "Millennium" episode, "Beware of the Dog." This is perhaps by design, as Erin Maher and Kay Reindl were staff writers on that show.
