An invitation to Father Of The Bride Steve Martin & Martin Short interview each other Audio commentary with director/screenwriter Charles Shyer |

Story Synopsis:
Father Of The Bride is the hilarious updated version of Vincente Minnelli’s original 1950 classic. It stars Steve Martin as the perpetually anxious father of the bride whose hysterical trials and tribulations leading to his daughter’s (Kimberly Williams) wedding makes for a really good time. Martin Short is hilarious as the wedding consultant.
DVD Picture:
While the LaserDisc reviewed in Issue 2 was excessively noisy with video artifacts, the 1.82:1 non-anamorphic DVD is more solid, with improved clarity. Due to its lack of distracting noise, images are also sharper. Color fidelity is generally natural, with accurate fleshtones, warm colors and deep, undefined blacks, while the LaserDisc looks smeared and undefined. Contrast and shadow delineation are nicely rendered for a picture that is quite pleasing throughout, especially for those who have seen the LaserDisc.
Soundtrack:
The Dolby® Digital encoded matrix Dolby Surround soundtrack is virtually identical to the matrix PCM LaserDisc version. The sound at times is harsh and strident with a very bright character. Otherwise, the soundtrack is nicely recorded with moments of subtle and aggressive surround provided by the terrific music score. Conventional throughout, the music is the surround element while the rest of the soundtrack is largely mono in character and generally mediocre.
