gs: Emo Philips (Joe Pert) Martin Ferraro (Izzy Moreno) Michael Margotta (Tony Rivers) Phil Collins (Phil Mayhew) Kyra Sedgwick (Sarah MacPhail)
Switek has to cool his vendetta against a shady game-show host who could lead the vice cops to an elusive coke dealer.
b: 13-Dec-1985 w: Paul Diamond d: John Nicolella
NOTE: Phil Collins was considered to be the "patron saint" of "Vice" music in the first two seasons. Collins' songs used in past episodes include "In The Air Tonight" (the pilot), "I Don't Care Anymore" ("No Exit") and "Take Me Home" ("The Prodigal Son"). Collins recorded "Life is a Rat Race" for use in this episode; it has never been released on an album.
• We learn that the official color of Crockett's Ferrari is Tuxedo Black -- because the writer, Mr. Diamond, was mildly offended by the use of a Corvette in Ferrari disguise. Tuxedo Black was a Chevrolet color.
• Songs Included: "Life is a Rat Race" (during game show & ending) by Phil Collins. "Pick It Up (And Put It in Your Pocket)" (while shopping) by Stan Ridgway from album The Big Heat. b: 10-Jan-1986 w: Michael Ahnemann & Daniel Pyne d: Rob Cohen
NOTE: Songs Included: "Angry Young Man" (begin) by Ted Nugent from album Little Miss Dangerous. "Europa (Earth's Cry, Heaven's Smile)" (at pool) by Gato Barbieri from album Caliente!. "Cry" (during meet) by Godley & Creme from album The History Mix.
• Writer Daniel Pyne co-wrote the screenplay for the 2002 film "Sum Of All Fears".
• Many fans rate this as one of the best Miami Vice episodes in the entire series, and it's not hard to see why. It has the lot: An exciting story, great music, an ultra-cool villain superbly played by rock star Ted Nugent, a very sexy female guest star in the shape of French actress Arielle Dombasle, wonderful location shooting and that memorable final scene on the beach between Johnson and Dombasle. Terrific stuff!

NOTE: Don Johnson is said to have essentially directed this episode by taking the reins from the inexperienced Bolotin.
• Annie Golden, who had a very small part as a hooker in the police station in "The Prodigal Son", is introduced in this episode as Tommy, Crockett's mechanic. It is obvious that the character is supposedly to be a conduit for information, like Izzy and Noogie, but it doesn't take. Tommy is seen in one more episode, the wretched "Florence Italy", before disappearing into the Noogie-sphere.
• Jan Hammer, who wrote and performed the show's theme and score each week, is seen briefly in the teaser (the pre-credit sequence) as a wedding musician. Hammer was riding high on the success of the show's soundtrack album, released the previous summer. It was the first TV soundtrack to reach the top of the Billboard Album Chart since "Peter Gunn" did it in 1959.
• Songs Included: "Kyrie" (in club) by Mr. Mister from album Welcome to the Real World. "Face the Face" (during flight / at firing range) by Pete Townshend from his album White City: A Novel. "Mustang Sally" (in garage) by Wilson Pickett.

• Songs Included: "Who's Zoomin' Who?" (Danielle bathing) by Aretha Franklin from her album of the same name.
• Shari Headley, probably best known for her role as Lisa McDowell in Eddie Murphy's Coming to America, made her onscreen debut in this episode.

gs: Bernard King (Matt Ferguson) Bill Russell (Judge Ferguson (as William F. Russell)) Harvey Fierstein (Benedict) Michael Richards (Pagone) Paul Greco ()
A judge with heavy gambling debts tries to persuade his college all-star son to throw a game. Crockett suspects the judge let a drug dealer go free because of his money troubles.
b: 07-Mar-1986 w: Chuck Adamson d: Dick Miller
NOTE: Seinfeld's hipster doofus neighbor does not seem so lovable when he is threatening people in this episode. A rare glimpse of Michael Richards in a dramatic role.
• Songs Included: "Gambler" (at racetrack) by Madonna from Vision Quest Original Movie Soundtrack. "P-Machinery (Polish Mix)" (C and T drive to and watch a basketball game) by Propaganda from album A Secret Wish.

43. Trust Fund Pirates
gs: Denny Dillon (Fluffy Collins) Gary Cole (Jackson Crane) Nicole Fosse (Lani Mueller) Richard Belzer (Captain Hook) Tommy Chong (T. R. "Jumbo" Collins) Perry Lang (Skip Mueller) Charlie Barnett (II) (Noogie LaMont)
Crockett and Tubbs prevail upon a pilot to stall his retirement from the contraband business long enough to connect them with a band of murderous 20th-century pirates.
b: 02-May-1986 w: Daniel Pyne d: Jim Johnston
NOTE: This episode was intended to be a loose sequel to the 1st year episode "Smugglers Blues", but when Glenn Frey could not participate, the pilot character was re-written and Gary Cole was cast.
• Gary Cole was a top contender for the role of Sonny Crockett. Cole is a journeyman actor who was in the 80s series "Midnight Caller" and the 90s series "American Gothic". He played Mike in both "Brady Bunch" feature films and starred in the 2002-03 season as Uncle Bill in The WB's revival of "Family Affair".
• Richard Belzer would go on to be a TV cop himself as Det. John Munch in "Homicide: Life On The Street" in 1992 and "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" in 1999. He also took the character of Munch to "Law & Order", "The X-Files" in 1999, and the short-lived UPN drama "The Beat" in 2000.
• Denny Dillon played Brian Benben's uber-obnoxious assistant on the HBO series "Dream On."
• Tommy Chong's old partner, Cheech Marin, would team up with Don Johnson on "Nash Bridges" (1996-2001). Chong and Philip Michael Thomas appeared in the same episode of the series. Chong is also a cast member of "That 70s Show".
• This is the first episode in a year that Charlie Barnett appeared as Noogie Lamont; reportedly, a drug fueled rage got him banned from the set by Johnson, who refused to do scenes with him. Barnett's next episode would be "Missing Hours" in 1987; he had no scenes with Don Johnson.

The Calderones are back: Angelina reveals that Tubbs fathered her son; and her half-brother has put up a $1 million bounty to revenge her father's death.
b: 09-May-1986 w: Dennis Cooper d: John Nicolella
NOTE: Angelina is seen for the first time since early in season 1, "Calderone's Demise". Even though she dies, her "love child" with Tubbs survives, unbeknownst to the detective. Although the Calderones will be back for one more round in season 3, "The Afternoon Plane", the baby is never mentioned again in the series.
• This is the last episode of the series to have that "Classic Vice" look. The pastels would be out in season 3 in favor of a look Michael Mann described as "Moscow at Midnight". The New Style did not last for long, but the rest of the series would be a hodge-podge of both styles.
• Then Chrysler Motors Chairman Lee Iaococa has a cameo as a parks commissioner. He was a personal hero of Michael Talbott.
• Another Phil Collins song is heard on "Vice". Phil Collins would all but be abandoned by the producers in season 3 in favor of former Genesis bandmate Peter Gabriel and tracks from his bestselling album "So".
• Songs Included: "After the Fire" (Tubbs' memories) by Roger Daltrey from album Under a Raging Moon. "Long Long Way To Go" (end) by Phil Collins from album No Jacket Required.
