Crime is the disease and Sylvester Stallone is the cure in Cobra , a high-octane rehash of the Clint Eastwood / Dirty Harry films, burnished to a 1980s action sheen. Stallone is Marion Cobretti, a cop called in when regular police methods have failed. Cobra is sent to get a cult of Charles Manson -like serial killers and to protect Ingrid ( Brigitte Nielsen ), a beautiful statuesque witness who is set to testify against them. Cobra deposits Ingrid in an out-of-the-way town for safe keeping, but a mole in the police department tips off the killers. The gang comes racing into town to get Ingrid, but Cobra is there waiting for them, ready to spring into action. — Paul Brenner

Story Synopsis:
Based on the novel “Fair Game” by Paula Gosling, Cobra features Stallone as Lt. Marion Cobretti, a one-man assault force whose laser-mount machine gun and pearl handled Colt .45 spit pure crime stopping venom. On the trail of a merciless killer, Cobretti is pit against an army of psychos bent on slashing their way to a “New Order”-and killing the inadvertent witness (Nielsen) on their latest blood spree.

DVD Picture:
The anamorphic DVD has a slight reddish character apparent throughout the color fidelity. Scenes sometimes appear to have excessive contrast and are undefined. Images are generally sharp and detailed, but sometimes exhibit a slight haze. The anamorphic and letterbox aspect ratio is framed at 1.78:1, instead of the theatrical 1.85:1.

Soundtrack:
The soundtrack has been remastered and encoded in Dolby® Digital. The soundfield is very spatial, though not quite as dynamic as the best soundtracks. Bass response does not quite reach the lowest octave and lacks power and articulation, though a signal is present in the .1 low frequency effects channel. Dialogue generally sounds natural, except for instances of ADR-dubbing. The music score sounds expansive and is generally well recorded. Sound effects are directionalized, and surround envelopment is often aggressive.
